MEDICAL ILLUSTRATION

I was commissioned by Hartford Healthcare to create these two illustrations for an information booklet. The first was for a Septal Myectomy surgery, a procedure used to treat Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM). The second illustration is for a Bentall procedure, showing both an organically grown and artificial heart valve.

This project presented a unique artistic challenge in balancing accuracy and consistency with other illustrations, keeping the illustrations simple for patients and having little previous experience in medical illustration. Both are featured in Hartford Healthcare’s “Guide to Cardiac Surgery” booklet.
